The quiet one almost didn't show up.

Five days. That's the maximum window. Nova let four of them pass without a word — no text, no meme, no pin, nothing. I was starting to think she'd disqualified herself on purpose.

Then, on the morning of day five: a location pin on a beach, a time, and seven words.

Go around the house not to the house.

I find her in the ocean. Surfing. At sunset. In a wetsuit that answers every question the internet has ever asked about her.

Nova Reyes does not talk much. When she does, she uses six words where other people use sixty. But tonight she tells me things — about her family, about her house, about the reason she doesn't have to work, about what she actually wants from me.

What she wants is specific. It is not what the other four wanted. And the intensity of it is going to make me forget my own name.

She has a tent. She has snacks. She has a gaming console.
